TOLL SCAMS ON THE RISE AGAIN IN WISCONSIN
Highway Toll scams are on the rise again. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Division of Motor Vehicles is alerting motorists of attempts by scammers to hit your pocket with fake toll charges. Phishing attempts through text messages claim to originate from WisDot, hoping to lure consumers to click on fraudulent links and share personal information. The most common phishing messages warn of a “final reminder” or an “outstanding toll”. Some scammers even duplicate the appearance of official WisDot content. These scam text messages can’t be true, as there are no tolls in the State of Wisconsin.
Those falling victim to a scam should consider filing a police report with their local municipality. Internet based crime can also be reported online at ic3.gov.
