MERRILL DRIVER HAS CLOSE CALL WITH MAILBOXES, ARRESTED FOR OWI FIRST OFFENSE

MERRILL – On Sunday January 19th, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy completed a traffic stop of a vehicle that had deviated from its lane and had come very close to hitting several mailboxes on Pope Rd near CTH K in the Town of Merrill. The 58-yr-old male driver was showing signs of impairment and agreed to field sobriety tests, however after the first test was performed, he refused further testing. Northland residents are being reminded that given the current sub-zero climate, our four-legged friends need to be closely watched and kept warm. Though they appear to have natural protection with their furry coats, cats and dogs are especially susceptible to frostbite on exposed areas such as their ears, nose and paws. It’s best to keep pets indoors as temperatures plummet. If your pet is exposed to road salt or other ice melt chemicals, be sure to clean their paws thoroughly and keep their fur free of these contaminants.

MERRILL FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT WEEK ENDING JANUARY 19

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 52 calls last week, bringing the total for 2025 to 149 calls. There were 43 calls requesting EMS services. There were two motor vehicle accidents resulting in injuries, the first on County Rd G in the Town of Merrill on Tuesday January 14th, and the second on Swede Rd in the Town of Merrill on Sunday January 19th.

MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT ALERTING RESIDENTS TO INTIMIDATING EMAIL SCAM

MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department is alerting residents to a string of suspicious emails that are being sent out to folks around Merrill. The messages are an attempt to collect money from individuals through threat and intimidation. Information about the type of communication being circulated is available on the Merrill Police Department Facebook page, aimed at raising awareness and encouraging discussion about this specific scamming activity.

BROKERAGE CONTRACT FOR PINECREST SALE AWARDED TO MARCUS & MILLICHAMP

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Administrative and Legislative Committee met on Wednesday January 8 at the county Government Services Center. Following closed session, a motion was made by committee member Julie DePasse, seconded by member Ken Wickham regarding the brokerage contract for Pine Crest Nursing Home. The motion to award the contract to broker Marcus & Millichap was carried on voice vote. The committee believes the firm will bring the most advantageous bid for Lincoln County.

TOWN OF MERRILL – On Tuesday January 14th  at 7:27 AM, the Lincoln County 911 center received a report of a crash with injuries on STH 17 near CTH G in the Town of Merrill involving a school bus and an SUV. Lincoln County Sheriffs Office Report Week Ending January 12

LINCOLN COUNTY – Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 35 traffic stops, 59 security checks, and 8 calls involving cars hitting deer. There were 2 reports regarding unsafe driving. On Saturday January 11, deputies were dispatched to the scene of a two-car crash with injuries at the intersection of CTH JJ and Hillside Drive in the Town of Merrill. Investigation showed that the 84-year-old male driver of the eastbound vehicle from Merrill showed signs of impairment. He was arrested for OWI causing injury first offense.
