CAMPER FIRE NEAR HWY 107 ENDS IN TOTAL LOSS, NO INJURIES
TOWN OF MERRILL – Shortly before 3 PM on Tuesday January 21, the Merrill Fire Department and Merrill DNR Ranger were dispatched to the scene of a possible grassfire off of HWY 107. There was black smoke coming from the field north of Tri-Trucking. Three units were sent to the scene, including Brush-66. Upon arrival, it was determined that a large camper was burning and largely consumed by fire. Brush-66 was used to fight the fire.
It was determined that the resident of the camper was not home a the time of the blaze. Despite the frigid temperatures, crews were able to efficiently extinguish the fire, however the camper was a total loss. Merrill Firefighters’ Charities put the resident up for the night at the AmericInn.
