MERRILL DRIVER HAS CLOSE CALL WITH MAILBOXES, ARRESTED FOR OWI FIRST OFFENSE

MERRILL – On Sunday January 19th, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy completed a traffic stop of a vehicle that had deviated from its lane and had come very close to hitting several mailboxes on Pope Rd near CTH K in the Town of Merrill. The 58-yr-old male driver was showing signs of impairment and agreed to field sobriety tests, however after the first test was performed, he refused further testing. Northland residents are being reminded that given the current sub-zero climate, our four-legged friends need to be closely watched and kept warm. Though they appear to have natural protection with their furry coats, cats and dogs are especially susceptible to frostbite on exposed areas such as their ears, nose and paws. It’s best to keep pets indoors as temperatures plummet. If your pet is exposed to road salt or other ice melt chemicals, be sure to clean their paws thoroughly and keep their fur free of these contaminants.

MERRILL FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT WEEK ENDING JANUARY 19

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 52 calls last week, bringing the total for 2025 to 149 calls. There were 43 calls requesting EMS services. There were two motor vehicle accidents resulting in injuries, the first on County Rd G in the Town of Merrill on Tuesday January 14th, and the second on Swede Rd in the Town of Merrill on Sunday January 19th.
