The Department of Workforce Development has released estimates for November unemployment. Job rates ticked up slightly in the Northwoods, which is expected for this time of year. Lincoln County rose from 2.2 percent in October to 2.6 percent in November, with Oneida and Vilas Counties also showing slight increases. Sixty of the state’s 72 counties showed an increase for the month, while the remaining twelve showed no change.

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 57 calls last week, bringing the total since the beginning of 2024 to 2,352 calls. There were 47 calls requesting EMS services. There was one motor vehicle accident on STH 17 in the Town of Pine River on Tuesday, December 31. No injuries were reported. There was another incident on Monday, December 30 involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian on a bicycle.
