Marching Jays Capture Third Place at State Championships

MERRILL – On Saturday October 19th, The Merrill Marching Jays competed in the 2024 Wisconsin State Marching Band Championships at UW-Whitewater, Class AA Competition. The Marching Jays captured 3rd place in their division with a season high score of 79.038. The band also captured 2nd place in percussion. The impressive performance at the State championships capped a successful fall campaign for the Marching Jays, who showed consistent improvement throughout the season

Merrill High Student Receives Beck’s Player With Heart Recognition

MERRILL – The Merrill Area Public Schools Board of Education recently recognized Merrill High Junior Kaylynn Allen for receiving the Beck’s Player With Heart Recognition. Kaylynn was nominated for her commitment to agriculture and the FFA and for her involvement on the Girl’s Wrestling team, Cheer Team, and Brooke’s School of Dance. She is a role model for younger peers pursuing careers in agriculture and actively welcomes new student FFA members. Only 20 students are chosen annually, each eligible for a $1,000 scholarship. Merrill “Make a Difference” Community Cleanup Day Taking Place Saturday October 26

MERRILL – Merrill’s “Make a Difference Day ” will take place tomorrow, Saturday October 26th from 9AM until Noon. The community is still seeking volunteers to join the effort. Those interested in volunteering should register at door 14 of the Prairie River Middle School at 8:30 AM. You’ll need to provide your own transportation and bring rakes and gloves. Multiple Vehicle Crash In Township of Merrill Leaves Two Dead, Two Injured

TOWN OF MERRILL – Multiple 911 calls were received by the Lincoln County 911 Center at approximately 3:46 p.m. on Wednesday, 10/23/2024 reporting a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of State Hwy 17 and Barnes Creek Ave. in the Township of Merrill. Reports at the time stated multiple occupants were injured. Preliminary investigation indicates that a northbound pickup truck crossed the center line and struck a southbound SUV head-on. Lincoln County Sheriffs Office Report Week Ending October 20

LINCOLN COUNTY – Last week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 30 traffic stops and 14 security checks. There were 18 calls involving cars hitting deer, and three calls of cars hitting other wildlife. There were twelve calls for unsafe driving. On Thursday Oct 17, a deputy stopped a vehicle deviating from traffic on CTH D in the township of Bradley. Upon making contact with the 51-year-old female driver from Tomahawk, the deputy noticed signs of impairment and performed sobriety tests, which showed a level of .383 or 19 times over…

Merrill Fire Department Report Week Ending October 20

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 39 calls last week, bringing the total for 2024 to 1,831 calls. There was one call regarding a carbon monoxide detector and alarm system activation. There was one motor vehicle accident on East 8th St on Tuesday October 15 that resulted in injuries. There were 35 additional calls requesting EMS services. One call was received Tuesday October 18 with a report of the odor of smoke on Chippewa St in the City of Merrill.

MERRILL – On Monday evening, October 14, the Merrill Marching Jays delivered a powerful performance of Echoes of Darkness for family, friends, and community members in the High School Auditorium. The 53-member band, including 10 seniors, has presented the show at competitions across Northcentral Wisconsin, recently earning a second-place finish.
