MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 18 incidents last week. One accident was reported. There were two reports of domestic disturbance and disorderly conduct. There was one report for theft and one instance of a resident finding a cell phone and taking it to the police department. Two calls were received for suspicious activity. Merrill Common Council Votes in Favor of Removing Pines on Memorial Drive

MERRILL – During their Tuesday evening October 8 City of Merrill Common Council meeting, the Council voted 7-1 in favor of removing the red pine trees located on the east side of the Fairgrounds along Memorial Drive. The Rodeo Association has donated decorative fencing which will be placed around the perimeter of the fairgrounds. Local Cable Provider “Impersonators” Reportedly Trolling Merrill Neighborhoods

MERRILL – On October 2nd at 8:02 PM, the Merrill Police Dept received a call reporting two males had stopped at their home claiming to be from Spectrum and wearing Spectrum uniforms. The caller was suspicious, as their vehicle had no markings on it. An officer contacted Spectrum and found they were not currently conducting any door-to-door campaigns in the area, and they confirmed that all of their vehicles are marked.  The officer was unable to locate the individuals, and their intentions remain unknown at this time

Lincoln County Sheriffs Department Report Week Ending October 6

LINCOLN COUNTY – Last week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 40 traffic stops and 25 security checks. There were nine calls involving cars hitting deer, and one call of hitting a bear. There were nine calls for unsafe driving. On Tuesday Oct 1, a deputy stopped a vehicle on Hwy 51 near the 209 MM for a speeding. During the stop a Marathon County Sheriff’s K9 was called to assist. MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 38 calls last week, bringing the total for 2024 to 1,742 calls. There were 4 calls regarding smoke alarm, carbon monoxide detector & alarm system activation. There was 1 motor vehicle accident Saturday October 5th on Joe Snow Rd, no injuries were reported. There were 35 calls requesting EMS services, excluding the 1 call for a motor vehicle accident. One call was received on Tuesday October 1st for a malicious false alarm on 10th St in the City of Merrill.

Merrill Marching Jays Place 2nd At Greendale Marching Invitational

MERRILL – On Saturday October 5, the Merrill Marching Jays competed in the Greendale Marching Invitational. The Marching Jays came away with two recognitions, as they placed 2nd overall with a score of 72.825 and were also recognized as Best Percussion in Class AA. The second place score was an eight point jump from two weeks ago during the competition at Franklin High School. The Marching Jays ranked 2nd overall amongst the 13 bands competing, regardless of class designation.

Council Grounds State Park Installs New Information Kiosk

MERRILL – Information regarding enjoying Council Grounds and all it has to offer is now more readily available, as a new kiosk has been installed where the River Bend Trail meets the park’s Brown Trail. Park maps and info can be found on one side of the kiosk, and the other side will display info about Merrill. Park Manager Sarah Gilbert purchased the kiosk with funds made available through donations from numerous friends and clubs that support Council Grounds. Lincoln County Health Department Promotes Lead Safe Homes Program

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Health Department has put out a reminder that while older homes are full of charm and character, they can also sometimes contain lead. County residents who live in homes that were built before 1978 may qualify for the Lead Safe Homes program, which aids in finding and removing lead in homes across Wisconsin. Local Driver Cited for Disorderly Conduct, Passenger Arrested for Felony Bail Jumping

MERRILL – On Saturday September 28th just after 1:00 AM, the Merrill Police Department received several calls regarding a vehicle squealing its tires around the city. Officers quickly located the vehicle and cited the driver for disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle. Upon further investigation, they discovered that a passenger had been drinking, violating the terms of an open felony bond, leading to the passenger’s arrest for felony bail jumping.

Merrill Fire Department to Receive Annual Forest Fire Protection Grant

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department has announced they will be receiving their annual Wisconsin DNR Forest Fire Protection Grant. This year’s grant totals $2,348, and is designated for Personal Protection Equipment, training, and for the purchase of other tools and equipment.
