MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 35 calls last week, bringing the total for 2024 to 2,286 calls. There were 33 calls requesting EMS services. There was one call for a natural gas leak on Monday, December 23rd on South Mill St in the City of Merrill. A call was received regarding a spill of a flammable liquid on E Main St in the City of Merrill on Sunday, December 29th.

LINCOLN COUNTY ACCEPTING CITIZEN APPLICATIONS FOR COMMITTEE POSITIONS

MERRILL – Lincoln County is currently accepting applications for citizen participation on four committees or commissions. Though most committees are comprised of supervisors from the County Board, opportunities do exist for citizen members to serve. In order to qualify, candidates must be residents of Lincoln County and must be at least 18 years of age. Outside of the Emergency Planning Commission, candidates may not hold any elective or appointive position or office. Those seeking membership on the Veteran’s Service Commission must be Veterans. LINCOLN COUNTY SPORTS CLUB TO HOST FROZEN FINGERS RANGE DAYS THIS WINTER

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Sports Club will host Frozen Fingers Range Days during the brisk winter months. The range will open from Noon to 3:00 PM on January 1st for a New Year’s Day shoot, and again on January 18th and 19th. February and March dates will be shared on the Club’s Facebook page. A special Range Opening event is planned for Saturday, April 26th. Memberships are available, and Day Passes remain just $20.

ICE AGE TRAIL ALLIANCE REPORT: HIKERS AND VOLUNTEERS SET RECORDS IN 2024

The Ice Age Trail Alliance has announced 2024 as a record-setting year for both trail users and volunteer efforts. An estimated 4.65 million outdoor enthusiasts explored sections of the 1,200-mile trail, based on data gathered by the Fiscal and Economic Research Center at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The economic impact of this surge in trail activity is estimated to be around $460 million. This success was supported by the dedicated efforts of volunteers, who contributed a record 103,000 hours to a wide range of trail expansion and improvement projects.

MERRILL POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 22

MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 15 incidents last week. There were four reports of theft, two reports for Probation violations and open Warrants, and one report of evidence of drug paraphernalia. There were five instances of public and domestic disturbances and disorderly conduct, with 4 of those ending in arrests or summons for bail jumping. Three accidents were reported, two were hit and runs and one was an individual accidentally backing into their neighbor’s home.

MERRILL – Merrill Area Public Schools is reminding residents that registration for the highly anticipated Community Education Program opens on January 15. LINCOLN COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE REPORT WEEK ENDING DECEMBER 22

LINCOLN COUNTY – Last Week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 26 traffic stops and 52 security checks. There were nine calls involving cars hitting deer, and eight reports regarding unsafe driving. On Thursday December 19th, a deputy conducted a traffic stop for an expired vehicle registration on USH 51 near the 204 MM. Once in contact with the 31-yr-old male driver from Merrill, the deputy discovered he did not have a valid driver’s license, his license had actually been revoked and there was an open warrant for his arrest. MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 53 calls last week, bringing the total for 2024 to 2,251 calls. There were 47 calls requesting EMS services.  On Tuesday December 17 there was one call for smoke or odor removal on Rose-Len Court. On Saturday December 21 there was one report of a carbon monoxide incident on Liberty St, and one report of a gas leak on Van Rensselaer St.
