Lincoln County Sheriffs Office Report Week Ending October 27

LINCOLN COUNTY – Last week, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 19 traffic stops, twelve security checks, twelve calls involving cars hitting deer, and three calls of cars hitting other wildlife. There were five calls for unsafe driving. On Tuesday Oct. 22nd, a deputy stopped a vehicle on US HWY 8 in the Town of Bradley for speeding and failure to secure a load. Merrill Fire Department Distributing Slow Moving Vehicle Signs

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department has communicated that they are currently distributing Slow Moving Vehicle signs for free. According to the Wisconsin Farm Related Fatalities report, nearly one in five farm deaths occur on our state’s roads. The Fire Department is offering two signs per farm as the supply is limited. MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 12 incidents last week. One report was received for illegal burning, the suspect was found to be intoxicated and was also arrested for bail jumping. There was one report of disorderly conduct. There were four thefts reported, including two vehicle break-ins and one stolen vehicle. One report was received for road rage where a vehicle sideswiped another vehicle. Merrill Fire Department Report Week Ending October 27

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 49 calls last week, bringing the total for 2024 to 1,880 calls. There was one call regarding a gas leak. There were two motor vehicle accidents, one a multiple vehicle accident on St Hwy 17 on Wednesday October 23 that resulted in two fatalities. There were 41 calls requesting EMS services. One call was received Tuesday October 21 on E 1st St with a report of a grass fire.

Merrill Schools Perform Well During Witnessed Fire Drills

MERRILL – Last Wednesday October 23rd, the Merrill Fire Department completed their last witnessed fire drill of the season. The final drill took place at the Merrill High School. Every year during the month of October, the Fire Department completes an observation & timing of the evacuation during fire drills for each school in their jurisdiction. The Department stated proudly that each school observed performed very well.

Marching Jays Capture Third Place at State Championships

MERRILL – On Saturday October 19th, The Merrill Marching Jays competed in the 2024 Wisconsin State Marching Band Championships at UW-Whitewater, Class AA Competition. The Marching Jays captured 3rd place in their division with a season high score of 79.038. The band also captured 2nd place in percussion. MERRILL – The Merrill Area Public Schools Board of Education recently recognized Merrill High Junior Kaylynn Allen for receiving the Beck’s Player With Heart Recognition.
