Merrill Police Department Report Week Ending September 15

MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 15 incidents last week. Two accidents were reported. A call was received for trespassing at a local hotel. Officers followed up on four reports of probation violations and active warrants resulting in arrests, One individual was also charged with resisting an officer. There were two calls for unsafe driving, one of those drivers was placed under arrest for OWI. Free Well Water Testing Kit Program Expanded to Include Immunocompromised Families in Lincoln County

LINCOLN COUNTY – Lincoln County residents who use wells for their drinking water are encouraged to have annual testing completed for contaminates. The County Health Dept launched a new program earlier this summer that offers low-income families the opportunity to receive a free well testing kit. They are now expanding the program to also offer a one-time free kit to those who are immuno-compromised. There are a limited number of testing kits available through the free program. Merrill Fire Department Report for Week Ending September 15

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 51 calls last week, bringing the total for 2024 to 1,613 calls. There were 41 calls requesting EMS services, excluding one call of a motorcycle accident on Friday, September 13th. The accident occurred on US Hwy 51 in the Town of Merrill and resulted in a fatality. Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire on Tuesday September 10 on North Center Ave in Merrill. Merrill Hit With Widespread Power Outage on Tuesday September 17

MERRILL – The City of Merrill experienced a widespread power outage on Tuesday, September 17th around 12:20 PM. The outage affected nearly 3500 customers, per Wisconsin Public Service. Service was interrupted due to a downed power line on Logan Ave. behind the River County CO-OP Country Store. The line was clipped by the flagpole atop the old River County Feed mill as it fell to the ground during a scheduled demolition. Power was restored to the majority of the area by 1:56 PM. MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department is engaging in fire education in local schools again this fall, with the goal of teaching fire prevention to preschool through 5th grade students. The official theme will be “Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!” for Fire Prevention Week, which takes place October 6-12, 2024. MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 7 incidents last week. There were 2 accidents reported, one on Theilman St on Saturday, September 7th involving two vehicles and causing property damage. A call was received for vandalism at a local business. On Thursday, September 5th, the School Resource Officer investigated a report of suspicious activity involving a student. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Report for Week Ending September 8

LINCOLN COUNTY – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 67 traffic stops last week.  There were 20 security checks. Deputies responded to 8 calls involving cars hitting deer, and one call of a car hitting a bear. Deputies followed up on 9 calls for unsafe driving. On Saturday September 7, deputies were alerted to a wrong-way driver, traveling S/B on the N/B lanes of US Hwy 51 near mile marker 222 in the Town of Birch. Garage Fire in Town of Rock Falls Monday September 9 Causes Heat and Smoke Damage

TOWN OF ROCK FALLS – The Merrill Fire Department received a call at 3:32 PM on Monday, September 9 with a report of a garage fire at N4459 Mary Todd Court in the Town of Rock Falls. Initial reports were that smoke and flames were coming from the eves of the garage. The Department dispatched four vehicles to the scene, two of those EMS units. MERRILL – The City of Merrill is proud to be recognized as one of three trail communities as a part of the Wisconsin Ice Age Trail’s 2024 Mammoth Hike Challenge! Those interested in being a part of the one-month challenge during October can sign up for FREE on the City of Merrill Facebook page. Participants can compete individually or as a part of a team. Everyone logging at least 44 miles on the trail and visiting all three Ice Age Trail Communities will earn a limited-edition Mammoth Hike Challenge Patch.
