MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 13 incidents last week. There were three calls for disorderly conduct, one where a man was chasing another man with a hammer. The suspect was taken into custody on fresh charges as well as an outstanding warrant. Officers conducted one traffic stop for a speeding violation, resulting in a twenty-year-old driver being arrested for operating while intoxicated. LINCOLN COUNTY – Lincoln County celebrates a major milestone this year, turning 150 years old, and County leaders are asking for your input in planning a sesquicentennial celebration. They plan to interview long-time residents who have called Lincoln County home for 75 years or more. The County was founded in 1874 as the second largest county in the state at the time. Merrill Fire Department Report Week Ending August 4

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 48 calls last week, bringing the total for 2024 to 1316 calls. There were two motor vehicle accidents that resulted in injuries. There were 39 calls requesting EMS services, excluding the two accidents that resulted in injuries. Nicolet College Unveils Two New Alum Artworks

RHINELANDER – Nicolet College made exceptional use of a Wisconsin Technical College Perkins Grant, unveiling two impressive new, public art pieces on campus. The artistic productions were the works of Alums Carly Ratliff and Cody Cottrell Tekayanalow^nas`e. Ratliff’s five panel installation combines 3d fiber art and acrylic paint with each panel paying tribute to a different academic program at Nicolet. The unique piece incorporates actual material from student uniforms into the fiber portion. Multiple Families Displaced Following House Fire in Merrill

MERRILL – Saturday evening August 3rd, the Merrill Fire Department was dispatched for smoke coming from a home on Genesee Street in the City of Merrill. Firefighters were met with significant fire and smoke coming from the home. With the assistance of several area fire departments, crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, preventing damage to surrounding homes. Three individuals were evaluated for smoke inhalation, two were transported to Aspirus Merrill Hospital. No one can re-enter the home due to damage, displacing the occupants of both apartments. MERRILL – First responders from the Merrill Fire Department visited the Wisconsin Fire and EMS Memorial in Wisconsin Rapids on Wednesday August July 31st. They were there to offer maintenance services including mowing and yard work around the grounds and clean-up work in & around the Museum. Pickle Ball is On The Rise in Merrill

MERRILL – Local Pickle-Ballers are coming together in an effort to promote the rapidly trending and highly competitive sport. The quick-moving game combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong, and was invented in 1965 by three friends in Washington state.
