Lincoln County Traffic Safety Committee August 22 Meeting Summary

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Traffic Safety Committee met on Thursday, August 22.

Lincoln County Sheriff Department Chief Deputy Tyler Iverson noted crash data for this quarter is trending up, mostly due to car vs. deer incidents. He stated that statistically the number of crashes in the County through June of 2024 matches the total through June of 2023.

Discussion took place surrounding two fatal accidents for this quarter, one on US 51 south of County Road S on June 9th and one on County Road K south at County Road Q on June 18th.

On the state level, committee member Todd Rasmussen mentioned while crashes with fatalities were down per the five year average, they were up per the three year average. There was brief discussion on proven safety countermeasures, and speed related crash data in Wisconsin from 2023. Rasmussen shared the State Patrol regional map, which led to the committee reviewing speed data and data analysis requests.

The next scheduled meeting for the Traffic Safety Committee is November 19 at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
