Baldwin Visits Merrill Dairy Farm As a Part of 2024 Family Farm Tour

MERRILL – Local residents gathered at Breitenmoser Family Farms of Merrill on Wednesday, August 14, joining US State Senator Tammy Baldwin as a part of her Rural Leaders for Tammy coalition launch and Family Farm Tour.

Baldwin began the visit by touring the property with owner Hans Brietenmoser while they discussed the current state of farming in rural Wisconsin. She then spoke to all who were in attendance, at one point sharing that one of the things that she has heard about during the most challenging of times especially with dairy but farming in general, is the toll that it takes when you don’t know if you’re going to make a profit or meet your bills in any given month. The Senator spoke frankly about the rise in the suicide rate among farmers across the country because of those challenges. Baldwin shared that she teamed up with Republican counterpart Joni Ernst to introduce the Farmers First Act in 2023 to address the mental health epidemic in rural America and expand access to critical mental health support and resources for our nation’s agricultural communities.

Baldwin is opposed by Republican Eric Hovde in a key 2024 Wisconsin Senate race to be decided this fall.
