Merrill Edward Burns Post 46 Legion Baseball Wraps Up Season Even, Narrowly Misses State Tournament

MERRILL – Following a 12-12 finish in the Wisconsin Valley Conference during the regular season, the Merrill Edward Burns Post 46 Legion Baseball Team finished their 2024 campaign just one win short of a State Tournament berth, losing to Medford in the Regional Championship. The team was successful at winning a championship at their home tournament for the first time in years. Leading the team was strong group of highly experienced Seniors. MAPS Accepting Offers to Purchase for Vacant Jefferson Elementary School

MERRILL – The Merrill Area Public School District has announced that they will be accepting Offers to Purchase, specific to the vacant Jefferson Elementary School Property. The former home to students and staff of the school is located at 1914 W Jackson St in Merrill. Those interested in submitting offers can obtain the sales information packet at the MAPS Central Office building located at 1111 N. Sales St in Merrill during regular business hours. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Recognizes Lt Blade Mikula for 10 years of Continuous Service

Lincoln County Traffic Safety Committee August 22 Meeting Summary

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Traffic Safety Committee met on Thursday, August 22. Lincoln County Sheriff Department Chief Deputy Tyler Iverson noted crash data for this quarter is trending up, mostly due to car vs. deer incidents. He stated that statistically the number of crashes in the County through June of 2024 matches the total through June of 2023. Lincoln County Opioid Task Force August 14 Meeting Summary

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Opioid Task Force met on Wednesday, August 14. County Administrative Coordinator Renee Krueger shared that Lincoln County has received about $450K in opioid settlement funds.  YTD no money from those funds have been spent.  Funds received through the American Rescue Plan Act bulk public health dollars were used to cover wages, and also for the purchase of a TruNarc analyzer for the Sheriff’s Department. County Health Department Director Shelley Hersil shared she has $10,000 in ARPA Public Health funds could be put towards assessment and analysis regarding moving forward…

Merrill Police Department Report: Week Ending August 25

MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to nine incidents last week. One call was received for theft. There were two calls for disorderly conduct with one of those calls on Aug 22 reporting that three teenagers were lighting fireworks at a local playground resulting in a grass fire. The teenagers fled the scene, and the caller was able to extinguish the fire. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Report: Week Ending August 25

LINCOLN COUNTY – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 45 traffic stops last week.  There were 22 security checks. Deputies responded to four calls involving cars hitting deer. Deputies followed up on twelve calls for unsafe driving. On Thursday August 22, deputies were dispatched to St Hwy 17 and Gross Ln in the Town of Russell to follow up on a report of a vehicle in the ditch. Merrill Fire Department Report: Week Ending August 25

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 47 calls last week, bringing the total for 2024 to 1471 calls. There were 46 calls requesting EMS services. There was a request to assist for standby for Tomahawk EMS on Highway J in the Town of Birch on Weds Aug 21. The Department also took part in two community activities last week. Merrill Dedicates Street Sign Honoring Loved Longtime Resident Roger “Budda” English

MERRILL – On Monday August 26, an honorary street sign unveiling was held at the corner of West Main and Wright streets in Merrill. The City of Merrill began the honorary street sign project in 2023 to recognize residents who have left their mark on the community. Today’s honoree was Roger “Budda” English. City leaders, members of Merrill’s Historical Society and family members gathered for the unveiling of the new honorary street sign.
