Merrill Police Department Report For Week Ending July 7

MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 16 incidents last week. Six calls were received for disturbances and disorderly conduct, one of those involving public intoxication where the subject was arrested immediately for bail conditions prohibiting him from drinking. There were three crashes reported. One was a hit and run, and then another single vehicle accident where the driver struck a telephone pole resulting in an arrest for 1st offense OWI. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Report For Week Ending July 7

LINCOLN COUNTY – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 56 traffic stops last week. There was one crash in the town of Birch on US Hwy 51 north of County Hwy V where a driver stated that he believed he had fallen asleep at the wheel causing his vehicle to veer off the road and into a nearby field. Minor injuries to the driver were reported.  Deputies responded to 13 calls involving cars hitting animals, 10 of those involving deer. There were 24 security checks. CWA Announces Avelo Airlines To Discontinue Service To Orlando Effective August 31

MOSINEE – The Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA) has been informed by representatives of Avelo Airlines that effective August 31, 2024, services between Central Wisconsin and Orlando will be discontinued. This does not impact flights scheduled from now until August 31. One representative from the Airlines shared, ”Unfortunately, the CWA-MCO route was not profitable, and we do notexpect it to be within a reasonable time horizon. Rumors Of Merrill Walgreens Closing Unfounded

MERRILL – Despite several on-line reports of proposed Walgreen’s closings, it will continue to be “business as usual” for the Merrill store. According to a memo displayed in the store pharmacy and local store management, the Merrill Walgreens will not be closing, and said the location closure lists that are circulating were not issued by Walgreens. That list of closings included Wisconsin locations in Madison, West Bend, Fond Du Lac and Merrill. Merrill Restaurant Hosts Fundraiser Honoring Fallen Lincoln Hills Youth Counselor

MERRILL – Los Mezcales restaurant on east Main Street in Merrill was filled to capacity Wednesday evening July 3rd. The occasion was a fundraiser for Corey Proulx, who lost his life on June 25th during an assault by a disgruntled student, while performing his duties as a Youth Counselor at Lincoln Hills School. Former Lincoln Hills – Copper Lake Youth Counselor Charged On Two Felony Counts

Lincoln Hills/Copper Lake School youth counselor Evan White has been charged with physical abuse of a child causing bodily harm and substantial battery, both felonies. White, who made his first court appearance Tuesday in Lincoln County Circuit Court is currently free on a $1,000 signature bond The 44-year-old White injured a 17-year-old female student back on April 15th. The Merrill Police Department responded to 11 incidents last week. One call was for a missing person at an assisted living residence. The person was located later outside of the facility, as they hadn’t been signed out properly. Three calls were received for domestic disturbances and disorderly conduct, one resulting in a man receiving a citation for OWI. Merrill Fire Department Report For Week Ending June 30

The Merrill Fire Department responded to 41 calls last week. This brings the total for 2024 to 1092 calls. One call was for a motor vehicle accident resulting in an injury. There were 37 calls requesting EMS services. There was one alert from an alarm system activation that was unintentional with no fire on site. There was one call regarding a downed power line. One building fire was also reported.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 38 traffic stops last week. There were 12 crashes, one in the Town of Pine River where a 25-year-old Waupaca man was injured when he lost control of his motorcycle. The driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. There was also a disorderly conduct incident in the Town of Somo involving a heavily intoxicated 24-year-old male resisting arrest.
