TOWN OF SCOTT – A two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and a minivan resulted in three injuries on Tuesday, June 18th. The minivan was headed west on County Road Q when it attempted a left turn onto County Road K. At that same time, a Harley-Davidson driven by a man from McAlester, Oklahoma that was heading north on K struck the middle of the van on the driver’s side. Merrill Police Department Report For Week Ending June 16th

MERRILL – The Merrill Police Department responded to 17 incidents this past week. One call was for trespassing, resulting in an individual being taken into custody on an active warrant. Four calls were received for domestic disturbances and disorderly conduct. Six calls were received for theft. There was a crash involving two vehicles resulting in officers issuing a citation for failure to yield. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Report For Week Ending June 16th

LINCOLN COUNTY – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 40 traffic stops this past week. There was one crash, which was originally reported as property damage with no injuries. Deputies arriving at the scene discovered a two-vehicle crash had actually occurred. EMS services were requested by one of the drivers for a wellness check. Deputies responded to 15 crashes involving cars hitting deer, and one call for a car striking a coyote. The 911 Center took 13 calls.

Pultz Begins New Role As Lincoln County Veterans Service Officer

LINCOLN COUNTY – Recently appointed Lincoln County Veterans Service Officer Matthew Pultz started his new role on Monday June 17. Pultz, who was appointed to the position by the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors, replaces previous Veterans Service Officer John Olson who now serves Portage County in the same capacity. While in the United States Marine Corps, Pultz was stationed in Camp Fallujah, Iraq and is a combat veteran. His most recent role with Lincoln County was in their IT Department as a System Administrator.

Merrill High Varsity Baseball Players Receive All Conference Honors

MERRILL – Following the 2024 Season, three Merrill Bluejay Varsity Baseball players were recognized for their outstanding performance, as they received Wisconsin Valley All Conference honors. Sam Reimann (SS, .289, 1 HR, and 6 RBI) and Brady Norton (OF, .333, 7 SB) were named 2nd Team All Conference, and pitcher Brady Kanitz was named to the All Conference First Team. Kanitz ended the season 2-1 in conference play with a 1.99 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched.

Merrill’s Kate Goodrich Elementary Students Compete In Coin Drive

MERRILL – Kate Goodrich Elementary Students recently held a coin drive during Read Across America week, under the theme “We’re Wild About Reading”. The event was a friendly competition between grade levels, with the 1st Graders capturing top the earning spot. The final chapter of the story showed all classes earning a combined $1,744.50, which they donated to the Lincoln County Humane Society.

Merrill High School Trap Teams Score Big At Great Northern Trap Conference Shootout

MERRILL – Merrill High saw both their Varsity and JV Scholastic Clay Target Programs (SCTP) enjoy very successful seasons in 2024, with the Varsity team finishing undefeated and the JV team suffering only one loss. The success didn’t end there however as both squads and the Intermediate Entry team took first place in three divisions of Target Singles, while competing at the Great Northern Trap Conference Shootout at Wausau Skeet & Trap on May 30 and 31. The Intermediate Advanced team also competed at the event, earning third place honors.

The 13th season of Merrill’s Gazebo nights kicks off on July 11th at Normal Park. Organizers have unveiled the lineup for this year’s popular concert series, with opening night featuring Brian McLaughlin as he continues on his farewell tour. Gus and Val Caylor, who fill key roles supporting the series, highlighted Thorogood as the branding sponsor. Merrill Police Department K9 Dasty Receives Clean Bill Of Health

The Merrill Police Departments’ K9 Dasty has received a clean bill of health! Dasty was diagnosed with blastomycosis or ‘Blasto’ in March of 2023. The fungal infection, which is common in our area, can affect humans and animals who breathe in the spores found in damp soil. After several months off, Dasty gradually returned to duty and is no longer taking the required medications. The Department would like to thank the community for their support and generous gifts.
