TOWN OF BRADLEY – A very strong line of storms made their way across the Northwoods early Tuesday morning, bringing heavy rain, lightning and earth-shaking thunder. Most of Lincoln County was spared any damage from the storms, however the Lincoln County 911 center did receive a call regarding a cabin in the Town of Bradley near Tomahawk being destroyed by falling trees, leaving one person injured and another trapped inside the home. MERRILL – Merrill High School has announced that the Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin has recognized 5 members of the Bluejay golf team. Recipients of the association’s 2024 Academic All-State honors include Parker Klebenow, Jacob Schmeltzer, Chase Klebenow, Evan Elliott & Colton Burrows. The 5 Merrill students are among a total of 421 students from 137 high schools who also received Academic All-State honors.

Lincoln County Finance and Insurance Committee June 7 Meeting Summary

LINCOLN COUNTY – At the Lincoln County Finance and Insurance Committee Meeting on Friday June 7, discussions took place regarding a vehicle that was recently retired by the County Sheriff’s Office. All in attendance agreed by unanimous vote to keep it as a county fleet vehicle, to be monitored and evaluated after one year. Two representatives from the Humane Society were also present, and there was discussion regarding dog licenses and what the county’s funding is used for. LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Opioid Task Force met on Wednesday June 12. Topics of Discussion included a proposal from the Impact Community Planning Group for a needs assessment and gap analysis, and compiling survey questions to submit to the public for feedback on where gaps may exist with addressing the opioid crisis. Also discussed was nominating members for the Task Force Partnership. The next Task Force Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 2:00pm.

Merrill Fire Department Report For Week Ending June 16 2024

MERRILL – The Merrill Fire Department responded to 63 calls during the week ending June 16. This brings the total for 2024 to 1005 calls. One call was for a motor vehicle accident resulting in an injury. There were 54 calls requesting EMS services, excluding the accident that resulted in injury. A call came in reporting a building fire, and there was one call reporting the odor of smoke. Two calls were canceled en route.

Planning For Trail Between Wausau And Merrill Gaining Traction

MERRILL – Plans to establish a recreation trail between Wausau and Merrill are gaining traction. Two public involvement meetings have been scheduled, with the first taking place last night at the Lincoln County Service Center. The second meeting is scheduled for next Thursday June 27th in Wausau. The trail project should link not only the two cities but eventually continue on to Tomahawk and connect with the Hiawatha and Bearskin trails, leading trail-seekers well into the Northwoods. 2024 Cost of Bills Index Report Shows Merrill Households Expenses Lower Than Average

A recently published 2024 Cost of Bills Index Report provides a new standard comparison index for the most fundamental expenses that comprise the cost of living in a given area. Spending information for Merrill shows the average cost of household expenses to be $1,184 a month or $22,600 a year for the 10 most common household bills. These figures are 11% lower than the national average. Merrill households spend 36% of their income on household bills.

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Social Services Youth Justice Collaborative Committee met at the County Service Center last Tuesday, June 11. Highway 107 Repaving Project Scheduled For 2026

LINCOLN COUNTY – A repaving project on Highway 107 in Lincoln County has been tentatively scheduled to be completed in 2026. During their meeting on Tuesday, supervisors presented a resolution requesting the State DOT fund and pave the shoulders of the 13.6 mile stretch of road between Wilderness Drive in Merrill and County S near Tomahawk.
