E-Recycling is happening in Lincoln County again this year! Residents are encouraged to bring old electronics items that are no longer of any use to them, to the Merrill Festival Grounds today, Friday May 31 between noon and 5PM and again tomorrow Saturday June 1 from 8AM until Noon. No Injuries, Vehicle Total Loss In Thursday Morning Vehicle Fire Near Merrill

Several Merrill Fire Department units responded to the report of a vehicle fire Thursday morning on Brush Road in the town of Scott. Firefighters found that the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames when they arrived. A Lincoln County Deputy who was dispatched to the scene used a fire extinguisher to douse the flames. With the assistance of the Merrill Firefighters, the fire was quickly snuffed out. No injuries resulted from the incident. The vehicle was considered to be a total loss.

Merrill Police Department Report, Week Ending May 26

The Merrill Police Department responded to 14 incidents this past week. One call was for a hit and run involving property damage. Four calls were received for domestic disturbances. Five calls were received for theft. There were 2 traffic incidents that involved alcohol and drugs, both for possession of drug paraphernalia and one for OWI. One of those drivers was operating with a revoked driving status. A man also turned himself in for a warrant issued through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Merrill Fire Department Report, Week Ending May 26

The Merrill Fire Department responded to 44 calls during the week ending May 26. One call was for a motor vehicle accident resulting in an injury. There were 33 EMS calls, excluding the accident that resulted in injury. Two calls were for standby, one of those was canceled en route, and two others regarding a confined space standby. There were also 6 calls for downed power lines. The 44 calls for the week brings the total for 2024 to 856 calls.

Lincoln County Forestry, Land And Parks Department Announces Temporary Trail Closure

The Lincoln County Forestry, Land, and Parks Department has announced a temporary closure to the north end of the Hiawatha Trail Segment. They are performing an herbicide treatment of invasive species on this section of the trail. The trail segment between County Highway N and Heafford Road was signed as closed to pedestrian travel and as restricted entry interval required for the herbicide, effective Thursday May 30 2024. Merrill Bluejay Trap Team Shooters competed at the Badger State Games on May 18, 2024. The Team brought home three medal from the Games, two gold and one bronze. Matthew Maas of Gleason earned High Gun Overall honors. Maas shot a 97 in four rounds of shooting in the age 14-15 division, including three rounds of 24 and one round with a perfect 25. In a game heard on Bluejay 96.3 Wednesday night, the Merrill Bluejay Boys’ Baseball team captured the Division 2 regional title by defeating the Abbotsford-Colby Falcons 6-4 at Red Aarow Park in Abbotsford. The Bluejays gave up a single run in the bottom of the first inning on a walk, throwing error on a pickoff play, a stolen base, and a wild pitch by junior Bluejay starter E. J. Project SEARCH Program Produces 12 North Central Wisconsin Graduates for 2024

While thousands of graduates across the Northwoods are currently receiving their diplomas, twelve of those students have also completed the North Central Wisconsin Project SEARCH Program. The program’s graduation ceremony marked the completion of an intense, year-long “on the job” experience, offering graduates the opportunity to take this unique learning experience into the workforce. Lincoln County Sheriff Department Summary – May 26, 2024

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted 94 traffic stops in the last week. One was for speeding, the driver was placed under arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, as was one of the passengers in the vehicle. Another stop took place for an expired registration, that driver was arrested for a 3rd offense OWI. Deputies responded to 14 crashes involving cars hitting deer. The 911 Center took 47 calls as a result of last week’s storms.

On Saturday May 18 in the Town of Pine River an incident occurred resulting in Lincoln County Board District 9 Supervisor Christine Vorpagel being charged with OWI, first offense, and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
