WPS Files Request for Rate Increases for Northland Residents
Northwoods residents could see an up-tick in their utility bills starting next year. Wisconsin Public Service has filed a request with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to establish rates for the next two years for electricity and natural gas.
The WPS release states that the proposal could result in a $11-$12 increase per month for a typical electric bill. Natural gas customers could expect an average increase of $3-$4 a month. They also noted that monthly utility bills will still remain below the national average, even with the proposed increase.
The majority of the filing is to recover the cost of installing new power plants, which is already approved by PSCW. WPS will continue to give focus to three key priorities: building the infrastructure needed to support jobs plus economic growth in Wisconsin, reducing customer outages, and meeting new EPA environmental rules.
Updates will be communicated to customers via bill inserts, and on wisconsinpublicservice.com.
The PSC will review the proposal later this year, and the new rates, if approved, would take effect in January.
